Calendula, organic
Order now—tender annuals available for on-farm pick up starting mid-May!
Calendula officinalis, annual
Varieties offered:
Resina--very productive and very resinous. Smaller blossoms than Efurter, but so many of them! Large, vigorous plants that keep producing well into fall if kept picked. Great backyard choice for cut flowers, salads, and medicine making. Yellow and orange blossoms.
Efurter--very large blossomed commercial production variety. I found the plants to be more compact than Resina. Great choice for the home herbalist looking for sizable blossoms. This is the variety most commercial herb farms choose for size and potency. Orange blossoms.
Calendula blossoms are best picked mid-day when resins are the highest, and just as the blossoms open. If you have lots of blooms to harvest, your fingers will be sticky with resin! Keep the plants well picked (every other day) and from going to seed and they will produce for you through fall. When you get tired of picking the flowers, let them go to seed and they will resow for you. Pollinator and beneficial insect attractor. Also preferred by aphids (due to its resinous nature), and can be companion planted near other aphid favorites, such as peppers or tomatoes, to act as an aphid trap.
4" peat pot.
